renewed site renewed vision

it's been a while since i last posted & realizing half of the year has come & gone. we've been busy remodeling our first home & as remodeling goes, seemingly no end in sight...  my designs have been on the back burner for the past several months but now that our home is in a livable condition,  i feel energized & ready to start creating again.  so with this new energy, i put a heaping amount of time & love into this new site bringing both of my labels, rizom designs & leilei aloha under one roof, so to speak.  my hope is for a cohesive space, an organized, streamlined site that makes it easier to share what i love & create.  please browse around & check back often for regular posts. for now, i leave you with a spread in the beautiful spring/summer issue of oregon home magazine featuring my little redwood tote bag.  thanks so much to snow blackwood & the oregon home staff for their generous love! here's a link to their stunning magazine if you'd like to browse their latest issue!  http://www.oregonhomemagazine.com/

The River Flow Tote Bag

River by Mary Oliver The river Of my childhood, That tumbled Down a passage of rocks And cut-work ferns, Came here and there To the swirl And slowdown Of a pool And I say myself- Oh, clearly- As I knelt at one- Then I saw myself As if carried away, As the river moved on. Where have I gone? Since then I have looked and looked For myself, Not sure Who I am, or where, Or, more importantly, why. It’s okay- I have had a wonderful life. Still, I ponder Where that other is- Where I landed, What I thought, what I did, What small or even maybe meaningful deeds I might have accomplished Somewhere Among strangers, Coming to them As only a river can- Touching every life it meets- That endlessly kind, that enduring

One of my favorite mid century prints that I have treasured for years and years, it speaks to me in so many ways, as Mary Oliver does, the poetry is in the print as it flows out and swirls about, like a graceful river, in all it's beautiful muted colors of nature.

Mid Century 'Botanical' Sun 'n Shade Hat

Nothing is so beautiful as Spring – When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush; Thrush’s eggs look little low heavens, and thrush Through the echoing timber does so rinse and wring The ear, it strikes like lightnings to hear him sing; The glassy peartree leaves and blooms, they brush The descending blue; that blue is all in a rush ...

excerpt from 'Spring' by Gerard Manley Hopkins

the wonder, the colors, the freshness, the taste, oh the happiness of spring! blessed with rain, the spring comes alive with technicolor brilliance here in the pacific northwest, so much goodness one's heart sings with joy! the 'botanical' sun 'n shade hat, made of a gorgeous blooming vintage mid century linen is a visual ode to the magic of springtime and the anticipation of heading outdoors into the sunshine!

Driftwood + Seaweed Slouch

Ever drifting, drifting, driftingOn the shifting Currents of the restless main; Till in sheltered coves, and reaches Of sandy beaches, All have found repose again.

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow from the poem 'Seaweed'

This bag.... A labor of love, countless hours upon hours stitching & dreaming of the foggy gray coastline, walking in meditation, heaps of scarred driftwood that have seen the world, good stories kept in silence, tangled up in seaweed, it's most trusty drifting companion, draped beautifully giving itself to dryness of the land. All these thoughts and images of my day dreaming mind and methodical hands incarnated into the lovely Driftwood + Seaweed Slouch.

Seaside Diversion

We traveled to Newport this week for a dental surgery that I have not been looking forward to, needless to say but both along the way to and from, I was pleasantly soothed by the beautiful Central Oregon coastline and made the trip a good memorable experience.  Thank you Dr. Loiselle & staff for the wonderful care & thank you Mother Nature for creating such beautiful scenery.  Here are some pix from the trip ~ hope you enjoy a weekend filled with natural wonder wherever you may be...
